HINDS HOSPICE THRIFT STORES
Hinds Hospice relies heavily on individual donations and
revenue from our five thrift stores.
All of our thrift stores carry a wide variety
of goods, including: clothing,
kitchenware, books, jewelry, sporting goods, records,
furniture, appliances and
an ever-increasing list of collectable's. The thrift stores
accept most items
provided they are non-perishable, non-toxic and in good
working order. We
cannot accept mattresses or partially used medical supplies.
Every donation
helps, whether it's an antique dining set
or a pair of gently worn shoes. If you are unsure about whether your donation is acceptable
or not, simply visit
or call the store. Staff and volunteers are happy to
answer your questions.
If you would like to volunteer at
a Hinds Hospice thrift store, it's easy!
Just visit the store you wish to volunteer at and speak
to one of our
representatives. You will fill out a short application
that provides
us with a little information about yourself and the store
manager will train
you to perform your duties. Whatever you have to offer
that might help the
Hinds Hospice mission is welcomed and appreciated.
All of the proceeds from each of our thrift
stores go toward the mission of
Hinds Hospice, supporting the many programs and services
we provide to our
patients and their families. The services of Hinds Hospice
are ever growing and
so too must the thrift stores. Help us create stronger
and better-serving
stores by making monetary or store donations, volunteering
or shopping!

Causes and is now able to accept vehicle

VOLUNTEERS
Hinds Hospice relies heavily on volunteers
for the day-to-day operations of the
agency. We have volunteers to help with patients, help
with bereavement groups,
work in our thrift stores, fund development and community
awareness.
Patient Volunteers
Patient Volunteers go through a 24-hour training program
and a background check
before they are allowed to work with patients. They can help by taking the time to sit with your family
member so that you can
make that doctor's appointment or go to the grocery store
or enjoy an evening
at the movies...
They have the time to share a cup of coffee and trade
stories, wisdom, or simply
share the silence that often accompanies the satisfying
knowledge that you are
providing the person you love with the best care possible
and are doing it in
an environment they find friendly, secure, and loving.
Your needs define what we do...You have already met the
doctors, the nurses, and
other health care professionals who are assisting in
the care and comfort of
your loved one. With all this
professional help available, you wonder what is there
for a volunteer to do...
Baby-sit? Mow the lawn? Take the children out? Spend
some time with the patient
playing cards, watching a ball game, listening to a life's
story, hold a hand?
Talk with a troubled family member? Run an errand? Make
the coffee? Help write
a letter or journal? Or, just give the caregiver a break
so they can take some
time to themselves.
Every family has its own special needs and Hospice chooses
from its list of
volunteers someone with talents that fit your particular
needs.
Who are they?
They are your neighbors. They hold down various jobs,
worship in various places,
represent various ethnic groups. They are men and women
who share in common the
experience of a volunteer training course and continuing
education on topics
relevant to Hospice Volunteers. Some of them have been
intimately involved in
the very task you are undertaking as the primary caregiver
of a loved one.
Others applaud your efforts and desire to do what we
can to help and support your journey.
For more information on these special volunteers, please
call Michele at (559)
226-5683 or email her at Michele@hindshospice.org
Circle of Friends
Teen volunteers are needed for the Childrens' Bereavement
Group, Circle of
Friends. "Friends" are asked to come to weekly
sessions and companion children
experiencing the recent loss of a family member. The
sessions run for 12 weeks
on Tuesday evenings. Sessions begin at 6:15 and conclude
by 7:45 for the
volunteers and training is provided before the first
session begins. We need
adolescents between 13 -17 years old to commit to 12-week
sessions. Groups meet
from 6:15 to 7:45 pm at the Exceptional Parents Unlimited
building at 4440 N.
First St. in Fresno. Two docents are needed for each
session. If you are
interested in being a special friend, please call (559)
226-5683 and ask for
Michele or e-mail Michele@hindshospice.org
HINDS HOSPICE HOME VOLUNTEERS
Adults (18 or older) are needed to work as a member of
the volunteer staff
supporting the Hinds Hospice Home and are involved with
the maintaining of the
home environment and are not involved in direct patient
care. The volunteers
are oriented to proper telephone etiquette, use of the
kitchen when food is
being prepared, laundry, family support, and greeter.
Hinds Hospice is
requesting that those interested have a good telephone
and voice manner, have
the ability to interact well with people and are dependable.
There are 4
hour
shifts and 2 hour shifts are available seven days
a week. You may choose
as little as one shift per month. An annual TB test is
required for the Hospice
Home Volunteer. This could be the volunteer work for you! If you are
ready to
volunteer, please call (559) 226-5683 and ask for Michele or e-mail Michele@hindshospice.org

FUND DEVELOPMENT VOLUNTEERS
We have formed a volunteer group of people interested
in the fund development
side of the organization. Over two million dollars need
to be raised annually
and we can't do it alone. Volunteer possibilities
within the group include
staffing events or exhibits, ticket sales to various
events, selling cookbooks
or paper angels, event planning, setting up donation
boxes throughout the
community and a variety of other fundraising possibilities.
If you would like

Fresno, Madera and Merced counties.
COMMUNITY AWARENESS VOLUNTEERS
In an effort to educate the public about hospice and
the programs and services
we provide, we have created a Community Awareness Volunteer
group. This is a
dynamic group who are active in attending trade shows,
health fairs or other
community events to let people know that we're
here and can help. If you
would like to be part of this fantastic group, please
call Jill Hufft at (559)
